Food Power Awards
Food Power Awards 2017
Detroit Food Policy Council's 3rd Annual Fundraiser and Awards honoring excellence in Detroit's food system
Thursday, October 19, 6pm
Detroit, MI 48207
Each year the Detroit Food Policy Council recognizes those in our community who work in the local food system, and exemplify the values of Justice, Respect, Integrity, Inclusion and Transparency that guide our work. Now in its third year, this year the award has a new name. The Food Power Awards – formerly the Golden Beet Awards – is our annual fundraiser; and proceeds from the event will fund DFPC’s work in education, engagement, research, policy and youth programming.
Award will be given in the categories of Individual, Youth, Business, Nonprofit Organization, and Community Choice. Voting will be open on our website September 5 - September 25.
This year we are introducing a new category, the Community Choice Award. Voters will be able to submit their own choice* for the winner in this category, and the finalist with the most votes will be the winner. The award winners for the Individual, Youth, Business and Nonprofit Organization categories will be announced on our website before the awards; and the winner of the Community Choice category will be announced at the Food Power Awards ceremony on October 19.
*Please Note: Submissions for the people's choice awards will not be accepted for those already nominated in another category-including leaders or representatives of organizations or businesses already nominated, previous winners of the Golden Beet/Food Power Awards, or current and previous DFPC members. Those who do not meet the critera for nomination will be disqualified. See voting ballot for more details.
The evening will include a strolling dinner, award ceremony, silent auction and live music. By purchasing a ticket for the Food Power Awards you will also receive a one year membership to the Friends of the Detroit Food Policy Council. Tickets are $50, and $90 for two tickets. Tickets on sale through Thursday, October 17.
We are looking for individuals, organizations and businesses who would like to become sponsors of The Food Power Awards & Fundraiser. Financial and in-kind contributions from sponsors allow us to support advocacy and community education programs geared at reaching a fair, healthy and thriving food economy in Detroit. Sponsorship levels for in-kind donations will be based on cash equivalents and food donors will also receive recognition on the menu.
